Memorializing a Loved One
Honor a family member who has passed away by memorializing their profile.
When a family member passes away, their stories do not end. Memory Murals lets you memorialize their profile — a gentle way to honor their memory while keeping all their stories fully accessible.
How to Memorialize a Family Member
- Go to the Family tab
- Find the family member's profile
- Tap the three-dot menu on their card
- Choose Edit
- Toggle the Memorialized option to on
- Optionally add a passing date
- Tap Save
That is all it takes. The change is immediate and reversible if you ever need to adjust it.
What Changes
When a family member is memorialized, a few things change to reflect their status with care and respect:
- An "In memory" label appears on their profile card
- Birthday reminders are hidden — so you are not notified about upcoming birthdays
- Their card displays with a subtle visual treatment that distinguishes them from living family members
- All their memories and tagged stories remain fully accessible — nothing is hidden or removed
Their Stories Stay
Memorializing a profile does not remove or hide any memories. Every story they are tagged in, every photo, every note — it all stays exactly where it is. You and your family can continue to revisit, add to, and reflect on those memories.
When to Memorialize
There is no right or wrong time. Some people memorialize a profile immediately. Others wait until they are ready. The feature is there whenever you need it.
You might also memorialize a family member who passed away before you started using Memory Murals. If you have added them to your roster and tagged them in stories from the past, memorializing their profile acknowledges that they are no longer with you while honoring the role they play in your family's story.
Continuing to Add Memories
Memorialization does not prevent you from adding new memories. You can still:
- Tag the memorialized person in new memories as you remember more stories about them
- Upload old photos of them to existing memories
- Record stories about them using voice or text
- Invite family members to add reflections on shared memories involving them
Reversible if Needed
If you memorialize someone by mistake, you can undo it. Go back to their profile, tap Edit, and toggle the Memorialized option off.
A Living Tribute
Memorializing a loved one in Memory Murals is not about closing a chapter. It is about marking it with the reverence it deserves, while making sure the stories keep flowing. The people we lose are still part of our story — and they always will be.
