Transferring Billing
Learn how to take over billing on a gifted account or share billing with family.
If your Memory Murals account was set up through a gift, the person who gave it to you pays for the subscription by default. Here's how to take over billing yourself or transfer it to another family member.
Taking Over Billing
If you want to pay for your own subscription:
- Go to Account > Billing
- Tap "Take over billing"
- Complete the checkout process through Stripe
- Your payment method is now on file and future charges go to you
Once you take over, the original gifter is no longer billed. The transition is seamless — your account, memories, and data stay exactly the same.
No Interruption
Taking over billing doesn't reset your account or cause any downtime. Your Premium access continues without interruption.
Sharing a Billing Link
You can also share billing responsibility with a family member:
- Go to Account > Billing
- Tap "Share billing link"
- Copy the link and send it to the family member
- They open the link and enter their payment information
This is useful in several situations:
- A gift subscription is ending and someone else in the family wants to continue paying
- You want a different family member to handle the billing
- You're helping an older family member whose account was gifted and they need someone else to manage payments
When to Transfer Billing
Common scenarios where billing transfer comes in handy:
- Gift period ending — You received a 1-year gift subscription and want to keep going on your own
- Adult children paying for parents — A son or daughter wants to take over payments for a parent's account
- Switching payment methods — The original payer's card expired or they prefer someone else handle it
How It Works Behind the Scenes
When someone takes over billing through the link:
- A new Stripe subscription is created with the new payer's information
- The previous subscription is cancelled (no double-billing)
- The account owner's Premium access continues uninterrupted
- All memories, files, and data remain untouched
One Payer at a Time
Only one person pays for an account at any given time. When a new person takes over billing, the previous payer is automatically removed. There is never double-billing.
