Recording with Voice

Speak your memories out loud and let AI handle the rest — transcription, titles, dates, and tags.

Voice recording is the fastest and most natural way to capture a memory in Memory Murals. Just speak about what happened, and the AI takes care of everything else — transcribing your words, generating a title, extracting dates, and tagging family members by name.

How to Record a Voice Memory

Voice Recording Steps

Open the memory editor

Tap the + button on your Timeline to create a new memory.

Tap Record

Tap the Record button (microphone icon) in the memory editor. A recording dialog will appear.

Speak naturally

Talk about the memory as if you were telling a friend. Mention names, dates, and places — the AI listens for these details.

Stop recording

Tap Stop when you're finished. The recording is sent to the AI for processing.

Review the results

Within seconds, the AI fills in your memory: transcribed text in the notes field, a suggested title, tagged family members, a date (if mentioned), a category, and relevant tags.

Edit and save

Review everything the AI filled in. Adjust anything you'd like, then tap Save.

What the AI Does Automatically

After you finish recording, the AI processes your spoken words and fills in:

  • Title — a short, descriptive title generated from your story
  • Notes — a clean transcription of everything you said
  • Date — if you mentioned when it happened ("last Christmas," "back in 1998"), the AI extracts it
  • Family tags — names you mention are matched to people in your Family roster
  • Category — Birthday/Anniversary, Trip, Holiday, Milestone, or General
  • Tags — relevant labels like Family, Childhood, Places, Traditions

Tips for better voice recordings

Speak clearly and at a natural pace. Mention family members by their name as it appears in your roster. Include dates and places when you can — "This was Thanksgiving 2019 at Grandma's house in Ohio" gives the AI everything it needs to fill in the details.

Recording Tips

  • Find a quiet spot — background noise can affect transcription quality
  • Don't worry about being perfect — you can edit the transcription after
  • Go long or short — a 15-second story works just as well as a 5-minute one
  • Mention people by name — "My mom Carol" helps the AI match to your Family roster
