When you record a voice memory, Memory Murals doesn't just transcribe your words — it understands them. The AI listens to your story and automatically fills in the title, date, family tags, category, and more. Here's exactly what happens behind the scenes.

What Smart Fill Does

After you finish a voice recording, the AI processes your audio and fills in these fields:

Title

A short, descriptive title generated from the content of your story. For example, if you talk about a fishing trip with your dad, the AI might suggest "Fishing Trip with Dad at Lake Michigan."

Notes

A clean transcription of your spoken words. The AI cleans up filler words and improves readability while keeping your authentic voice.

Date

If you mention a date or time reference — "last Thanksgiving," "summer of 2003," "my 30th birthday" — the AI extracts it and sets the memory date.

Family Tags

Names you mention are matched against your Family roster. If you say "my sister Jenny," the AI tags Jenny automatically.

You're Always in Control

Smart Fill is a starting point, not the final word. After the AI fills everything in:

Edit the title if you want something different
Fix the transcription — correct any names or details the AI missed
Change the date if the AI guessed wrong
Add or remove family tags — the AI only tags people already in your roster
Switch the category or adjust tags as needed

The AI learns from your roster

Smart Fill matches names against the family members you've already added. The more complete your Family roster, the better the AI is at tagging the right people. Add your key family members early for the best results.

Tips for Better Results

Say full names — "my grandmother Helen" is easier for the AI to match than just "grandma"
Mention dates clearly — "Christmas 2015" works better than "a few years ago"
Name places — "at our house in Portland" gives the AI useful context
Speak in complete thoughts — the AI produces cleaner transcriptions from natural, flowing speech
