Voice Recording Not Working
Step-by-step fixes for when voice recording or microphone access isn't working.
Voice recording is one of the best features in Memory Murals — speak your memories and the AI transcribes them for you. If it's not working, here's how to fix it.
Step 1: Check Your Plan
Voice recording requires a Trial or Premium plan. If you're on the Free plan, the microphone feature isn't available. Go to Account > Plan to check your current status and upgrade if needed.
Step 2: Check Browser Microphone Permission
Your browser needs permission to access your microphone.
On desktop (Chrome, Edge, Firefox):
- Look for a microphone icon in the address bar
- Click it and make sure access is set to Allow
- If you previously blocked it, change the setting to Allow and reload the page
On Safari (Mac):
- Go to Safari > Settings > Websites > Microphone
- Find Memory Murals in the list and set it to Allow
Quick Fix
If you can't find the microphone setting, try clicking the lock icon (or tune icon) next to the URL in your address bar. Most browsers show site permissions there.
Step 3: Check Mobile Permissions
On iPhone (Safari):
- Go to Settings > Safari > Microphone
- Make sure it's set to Allow or Ask
- Reload the app page
On Android (Chrome):
- Go to Settings > Apps > Chrome > Permissions > Microphone
- Make sure it's set to Allow
- If using a different browser, check that browser's permissions instead
Step 4: Close Other Apps Using the Microphone
If another app (Zoom, FaceTime, a voice recorder) is actively using your microphone, the browser may not be able to access it. Close any other apps that might be using the mic and try again.
Step 5: Try a Different Browser
Not all browsers handle microphone access equally well. For the best experience:
- Chrome — works great on both desktop and Android
- Safari — works great on iPhone and Mac
- Firefox — works well on desktop
- In-app browsers (opening links from Facebook, Instagram, etc.) — often have limited microphone support. Copy the link and open it in your regular browser instead.
Step 6: Clear Browser Cache (Android)
On Android, a corrupted cache can sometimes block microphone access:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Chrome > Storage
- Tap Clear Cache (not Clear Data)
- Reopen the app and try recording again
Still Not Working?
If none of these steps help, reach out to our support team. Go to Account > Help & Support and tap Email Support. Include your device type, browser, and what happens when you try to record. We'll help you get it working.
Quick Checklist
- [ ] On Trial or Premium plan
- [ ] Browser has microphone permission
- [ ] Mobile device permissions granted
- [ ] No other apps using the microphone
- [ ] Using Chrome or Safari
- [ ] Browser cache cleared (Android)
Work through each step in order and voice recording should be back to normal.
